A swing yarder is highly mobile and can efficiently move from site to site, provided that the area is relatively flat. For steeper slopes, however, a stationary tower logging yarder lets you to transport materials with even less of a disturbance to sensitive ecosystems.

You will typically need at least three drums to properly pull the payload to its destination, though a logging yarder can have as little as one drum, and as many as four. Either way, your logging yarder will need plenty of horsepower (90 HP is on the low end, while 700 HP is considered top speed), and at least one diesel engine, if not two. You need to choose between a swing boom or a fixed boom – swing booms can cut down on overall movement adjustments, but they are usually shorter than a fixed boom.
