1999 Pierce Model Tilt Cab FIRE TRUCK 12.7L L6 DIESEL
***TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE SINCE FAILURES RENDER THE APPARATUS UNUSABLE AND REPAIRS EXCEED THE VALUE OF THE UNIT***
Experiencing extremely abrupt left and right functions of the Aerial. Appears to be an issue with the electric over hydraulic aerial controls. Left and right controls have a long uptake and an abrupt transition into motion. Left and right control function do not have slow throttled speed. Checked manual control. Those are ok. Will need to verify ramp voltage setting for right and left functions.
Excessive backlash on pinion to ring gear to contributing to “jerky” side to side movement. Attempted to adjust backlash and turned the pinion to adjust and retested. Found now bottoming out in the gears which will cause more wear. Emailed Hughes and they recommended a pinion and ring replacement as the pinion and ring gears are worn. May need further diag. But current issue will cause excessive abruptness for left and right especially in windy conditions.
Undiagnosed engine misfire, possible failed exhaust cam lobe for cylinder 5.
Ladder had shifted deep and had to be retrieve with a tool. secured with a zip-tie that can easily be removed when ladder is needed.
Engine temperature gauge inside the cab is not working. Ran the rig for weekly operation tests and the temperature needle never moved in the dash. The exterior reading from the pump panel was working fine. – Needs gauge cluster.
Right large scene lamp inop.
Pump panel information screen no longer able to read information.
Lift cylinder leaking hydraulic fluid.
Ladder panels have been removed.
