Selecting the Right Service Truck for Sale

Picking the right utility truck largely depends on what it will be servicing. There are several options you'll want to consider.

First, deciding whether you need a crane and the right type of crane is one of the most important options when browsing new or used utility trucks:

• No crane - A service truck without a crane is the cheapest option.
• Telescopic crane - For lifting between 2,000 and 14,000 pounds. These cranes fold inwards for easier transportation.
• Hydraulic crane - Lifting anything more than 6,000 pounds will require hydraulics. Telescopic cranes can also be hydraulic as well.
• Articulated crane - These special cranes with a “knuckle” are meant for lifting more than 14,000 pounds.

Next decide whether you need an air compressor and the type:

• Reciprocating piston compressors - Use these compressors with pneumatic attachments, tire inflation, and other tasks with compressed air. They are not meant for long-term usage.
• Rotary screw compressors - These compressors are used for the same tasks, but they are meant for long-term usage.

Next decide on the type of roof, if needed, for the service body:

• Steel - Utility trucks made of steel are less expensive, but they weigh more and therefore consume more fuel. These contractor trucks also tend to break down faster.
• Aluminum - Utility trucks made of aluminum cost more, but last longer and weigh less.
