Most 16' dump bodies get built from 3/16" steel to save weight, but this Load King LKXD16X421/4DB is 1/4" AR450 on the front, sides, floor, and tailgate, so it’s set up for abrasive loads like rock, demo debris, and asphalt millings. The semi-elliptical body holds about 15 cy with 42" sides and a 48" tailgate, on an 8" formed channel longsill with a crossmemberless understructure. A telescopic trunnion-mount hoist runs off power take-off hydraulics. The air-operated tailgate has an external high lift cylinder, an air latch, sludge locks, and spreader chains, and a 10" dump apron helps with clean discharge. A mesh electric tarp, a full-width 24" cab shield, center console controls, a ladder, and an 18" x 18" x 36" steel toolbox round out the body. The 6x4 Freightliner M2 106 Plus pairs an 18,000 lb front axle with a 40,000 lb Hendrickson RT403 tandem rear and a driver-controlled locking differential for a 58,000 lb GVWR. The Cummins L9 makes 360 hp through an Allison 3000 RDS-P, with an engine brake, air brakes, an air dryer, an engine block heater, and a 70 gal fuel tank. A 50 ton pintle hitch, trailer brake controller, and 6-way and 7-way round receptacles let it pull a trailer. The cab has an air ride driver seat, heated mirrors, and power windows and locks, with strobe lights, a backup alarm, a fire extinguisher, and a first aid kit standard.
