Customer Appreciation

We started Portland Tractor in 1976 by supplying the industry rebuilt and used heavy machinery parts and components. Since the beginning, we have worked hard to build a reputation for honestly communicating with customers and reliably delivering what they need in a timely manner. It was hard work, but worth every effort because of the customer relationships and people we have helped. To us, honesty means being up front with what we can do, what we can't do. The bottom line is simple we tell the truth about any used part or component and then stand behind the quality of our product. Sticking to these principles has allowed Portland Tractor to build the relationships that have become the cornerstone of our company today.

In January of 2000, Vince Anderson and Lew Tripp started Rainbow Equipment Sales with the dream to be their own bosses and sell quality, job-ready used equipment to buyers who know the value that brings to their operation. Lew puts it simply, “Lots of people can buy a piece of ‘coal’ cheap, then try to polish it up to look like a ‘diamond’. But it takes a lot of work to find those few ‘diamonds’ in the used equipment industry that don’t have all the flaws of rebuilt equipment and deliver that inventory to buyers. That is what we do, deliver the diamonds among the coal.”

James Murphy founded “James G. Murphy Co” with the idea that if you treated every customer with respect and fairness, whether they were able to bid $10,000 or $5,000,000, you would be able to build a business people trusted. That idea is still how we run James G. Murphy auctioneers today. Now a second generation business, run by brother and sister Tim Murphy and Julie Murphy-Rice; the family vision kept alive by continuing to focus on doing right by our customers.

As they say "form follows function", so when you see United Equipment Company’s one-of-a-kind bulldozer shaped headquarters, built back in 1976, you pretty much know what we are about. Even before we built our Bulldozer Office, we set about to build an iconic business based on solid principles, sound ideas and strong customer relationships. Our commitment to customers and service is what we look for in who we do business with as well. That is why we have been with My Little Salesman, since 1974.

In the process Mike discovered a calling and built a business that was so much more than just buying and selling logging equipment. Mike’s practice of doing business with a handshake and a sincere “thank you” for the customers who trusted him built a strong business and a reputation for delivering what customers need from anywhere or to anywhere in the country.

General Trailer entered the trailer market in 1953 delivering a new logging trailer with increased payload capacity that was tough enough to withstand the demands of hauling logs. That success led them to expand into light-weight, high-payload heavy-haul trailers, which they built on the motto “delivering the best and repairing the rest!”
